CANADIAN INDUSTRY ONLINE - NOVEMBER 2013
INTRODUCTION
Last month we were proud to
introduce you to our new broadcast
partners at CEG, producers of Cana-
dian Health & Family, Canadian Bet-
ter Living and their latest creation,
Canadian Business Spotlight. In the
coming months, we’ll be going behind
the cameras with the Canadian crew
as they boldly venture into full pro-
duction of their new Spotlight series,
which is already being coined as - the
one to watch for all things business.
Kicking off this month, we will
take an in-depth look at CEG’s skillful
production team through an interview
with the series co-executive producer,
Nick Beck-Sayer. Here Nick shares
some inside viewpoints to this distinct-
ly innovative group and how that will
translate to Spotlight companies and
viewers.
Tell us a little about yourself,
and your team and their roles in the
creation of this new television show.
I’ve been involved with CEG for
a number of years, and it’s been a great
honour to be a part of a company that
is continually adapting and improving
our programs. As paradigms shift and
trends change we work hard to stay on
that cutting-edge of Canada’s chang-
ing markets.
We really have a great group of
unique thinkers and more importantly,
creators with many years of collabora-
tive experience. One of our veterans
in business development, Lisa Baez,
has been instrumental in presenting us
with this opportunity to partner with
CIO. We’re all very pleased to profile
Canadian Industry Online and inter-
view you (Sara Kopamees) in the se-
ries.
What is it like “behind the scenes” of
production with CEG?
Our production staff has a really
fantastic chemistry. Executive pro-
ducer Michelle Hughes has been key
in generating a presence to Canada’s
television industry. We foster an envi-
ronment that encourages our staff to
bring their own personality and cre-
ativity as well as overall integrity to
our programs. Our production direc-
tor, Keegan Richard does an incredible
job of teaming us up with the most
genuinely innovative companies and
organizations across Canada – put-
ting us in the same room and enabling
the program to achieve it’s maximum
potential. We are all about corporate
unity with a personal touch, taking
no greater pleasure than making each
sponsor feel like they are integrated
into our CEG family and showcasing
them in a way that really makes them
shine. The atmosphere is always very
comfortable, but with a very high pre-
mium held on professionalism and
insight.
On the technical side – what
level of expertise does your produc-
tion staff have?
We pride ourselves in techni-
cal excellence from the most state of
the art equipment to top notch opera-
tors. Leading the technical team is the
award-winning Paul Neal our director
of videography and photography.
On the flip side of technical ex-
pertise, we believe it is equally impor-
tant to present the facts in a manner
that is also aesthetically appealing and
engaging to the audience. That said
we ensure that each segment captures
a compelling story, illustrated with
